Cops kill bus heist suspect

A robbery suspect was killed and two of his companions were wounded in a shootout with policemen following the staging of a heist inside a passenger bus along Commonwealth Avenue in Fairview, Quezon City yesterday afternoon.

Jun Perez died on the spot in the ensuing gunfight with patrol cops in plainclothes who were aboard the Lucky 7 airconditioned passenger bus. The suspects declared the robbery at around 4:30 p.m., Central Police District (CPD) Station 5 chief Superintendent Jolly Dizon said.

A civilian identified as Angelica Ducusin was hurt in the incident and was taken to the Far Eastern University (FEU) hospital.

Also wounded were two other suspects, Ramon Hinines and Carlito Bakal, who were taken for treatment to the East Avenue Medical Center and FEU hospital, respectively.

Dizon said Hinines attempted to escape during the shootout, but responding community policemen patrolling Commonwealth Avenue immediately caught up with him.

Dizon said the incident occurred as the passenger bus with plate number PWA-831 was some 500 meters away from the CPD Station 5 precinct, in front of the Well of Life Specialist Center on Commonweath Avenue. – Katherine Adraneda
