76-year-old nabbed for illegal land sale

A 76-year-old woman was arrested by operatives of Western Police District (WPD)-Theft and Robbery Section yesterday for the illegal sale of two acres of land in Tandang Sora, Quezon City.

Police Officer 2 Carl Imperial said that Gerondia Jimenez, a native of Aklan and now a resident of 463 Marecos Road, Magsaysay, Tondo, was arrested in her residence by virtue of a warrant of arrest issued by Judge Mercedes Lacap of Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 15 of Manila last year.

Probers said that Carmelita Apines, the alleged partner of Jimenez in the illegal sale of the Tandang Sora property, filed the complaint against the suspect after allegedly failing to get her P200,000 commission.

According to Imperial, the warrant was issued last year but the complainant withdrew the charges after obtaining a favorable deal with the suspect.

But when Jimenez failed to deliver her promise yesterday, the complainant called up the police and asked for the arrest of the old woman, who was immediately nabbed after the police confirmed the validity of the previous warrant.

For her part, Jimenez explained that a friend, whom she identified only as Mrs. Teodoro, entrusted to her the land title of the said property and the power of attorney. But when her husband died, she sold the property to support her six children.

Jimenez denied making any deal with Apines and said she will file counter-charges. Edu Punay
