INP retirees appeal for release of benefits

Surviving retirees of the Integrated National Police (INP) are appealing to President Arroyo to intervene for the immediate release of their retirement benefits.
A recent decision by Manila Regional Trial Court Judge Juan Nabong entitles the less than 500 surviving INP retirees to the same benefits being granted to their counterparts in the Philippine National Police (PNP).
Nabongs decision should have been final and executory but Solicitor General Alfredo Benipayo appealed the decision which should have entitled the INP retirees to receive a pension almost three times the amount they are currently receiving.
The affected retirees fear that with the said appeal it will take at least two more years before they can get their benefits. Nestor Etolle
