- Pete Laude -
For trying to save his cellular phone from a snatcher, a 23-year-old electrician was killed after he was stabbed several times by his assailant Saturday night in Malabon City.

Victim Jomar Morgado of 1-D Sanciangco street, Barangay Catmon, sustained injuries on his left arm and two fatal stab wounds in the chest.

Morgado was declared dead on arrival at the Pagamutang Bayan ng Malabon by attending physician Dr. Aster Sagun, police prober PO3 Ferdinand Espiritu said.

Suspect Gerald Cabastana of Dulong Hernandez street also of Barangay Catmon, was nearly lynched by an angry mob if not for the police‘s timely arrival.

Beaten black and blue by the bystanders, Cabastana was brought by the police to the Tondo Medical Center for treatment.

At around 8:30 p.m., Morgado was reportedly texting while casually walking towards his house when Cabastana suddenly appeared from nowhere and grabbed his mobile phone.

The victim ran after the fleeing Cabastana but when he was about to corner him, the suspect turned around to face him. Morgado put up a fight but the suspect attacked him with a bladed weapon.

Bystanders came to Morgado’s aid but it was too late. They recovered the cell phone but failed to save the victim’s life.

Meanwhile, a Grade Six pupil was arrested after he stabbed a certain Roderick Canete, 20, of R-10, North Bay Boulevard South, Navotas at around 7 p.m. Saturday.

The boy reportedly got irked when the victim kept on teasing him while he was playing a computer game in a video shop along Sto. Nino street also in Navotas.

Using a pair of scissors, the boy attacked Canete hitting him twice in the body. Canete is now confined at the Tondo Medical Center.

The Navotas police is set to transfer the boy to the local social welfare department, SPO2 Alexander Acusin said.
