Pasig City Mayor Soledad Eusebio donated yesterday six motorcycles and 50 caliber .45 automatic pistols to the local police to enhance their capability in fighting crime and going after drug pushers operating in the city.
Eusebio earlier announced that it was her goal to rid Pasig of crime and illegal drugs.
National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Deputy Director General Reynaldo Velasco received Eusebios donation during simple rites yesterday at the Pasig City Hall.
"We can achieve anything with the strong partnership forged between the NCRPO and the local government units," Velasco said.
The NCRPO director said that the Metro Manila police needs all the help it can get in the logistics department as it is faced with budgetary constraints.
"This donation is a big boost not only to the capabilities of our law enforcers but also to their morale," he said, adding that the additional motorcycles will augment the NCRPOs Pulis Mabilis and Huli Agad programs.
According to Eusebio, police mobility is a key deterrent against criminal activities. "With our policemen in motorcycles, they can be easily deployed to any point in the city," she said, noting that heavy traffic usually delays the response time of mobile cars.
Meanwhile, the lady mayor said that the 50 pieces of Jericho caliber .45 automatic pistols will be distributed to the local police force to replace their old service firearms.
Since she assumed her post two years ago, Eusebio has been very supportive of the Pasig City police force. Patrol cars, communication equipment, firearms and monetary incentives have been provided to them. Just recently, the mayor has also turned over 10 brand new Toyota Revo vans and five new Kawasaki motorcycles to the Pasig City police.
"The city government of Pasig is fully supporting the PNP. This is only part of the many things my administration is planning to give to the PNP to boost their capability which the city will benefit in the end," Eusebio said.
