A 27 year-old man and his eight-month-old daughter were shot and injured by a jealous policeman the other night in Novaliches, Quezon City.
Victor Baronia, a waiter, sustained bullet wounds and is now receiving medical treatment at the Far Eastern University Hospital. His eight-month-old daughter Kaycee, was also hit in the hand and is confined at the same hospital.
Baronia was said to be a nephew of a high-ranking police official.
The suspect, PO2 Rodefort Basco, assigned in Camp Vicente Lim in Laguna, fled right after the shooting after his service firearm was forcibly taken away from him in a scuffle.
According to PO2 Joseph Dino, officer-on-case, Basco was seething with jealous rage after he saw Baronia visiting his ex-wife Julie Judilia.
Dino said in an interview that Baronia decided to pay his ex-wife and daughter a visit at about 9 p.m.in her home along Freeville-III, Barangay Kaligayahan, Novaliches.
Basco, however, saw Baronia and suddenpulled out his handgun and shot the victim twice, hitting him on the shoulder and leg. Kaycee, who was nearby, was also hit in the left palm.
"He just started shooting when he caught sight of the victim. He was that jealous and insecure. We are readying two counts of frustrated murder against PO2 Basco," Dino told The STAR.
A relative of Judilia, identified only as a certain "Ramon," saw what happened and wrestled Basco to the floor and was able to take the firearm away from him. The suspect immediately fled the scene.
