3 hurt in resto blast

At least three people were hurt after unidentified men on board a Honda Civic hurled a homemade bomb at a restaurant and videoke bar in Cubao, Quezon City after midnight yesterday.

Victims Raner Ferreras, Teresita Bañez, and Alfredo Yanis, all sustained lacerations in the body and were rushed to the Quirino Memorial Medical Center. All three are in stable condition.

Initial reports showed that the explosion occurred at about 1:15 a.m. at the EM Restaurant and Videoke located along 15th Avenue in Murphy, Cubao.

The Central Police District has yet to identify any of the suspects involved but said witnesses saw a man on board a car with no license plate hurl a bomb at the restaurant.

It is still unclear what the motives are, but sources said it could have been a "business rivalry" gone too far and "certainly not a terrorist attack."

The Civic pulled over in front of the establishment before one of its passengers hurled the bomb. The restaurant was "significantly damaged," police said.

Debris hit the victims, who were customers of the restaurant. Follow-up investigations are now being conducted by the police. Matthew Estabillo
