SPD welcomes 150 new cops

The Southern Police District is set to welcome today 150 new policemen into its command.
A formal turn-over ceremony of the policemen to the districts seven chiefs of police (COPs) is scheduled at 8 a.m. today at the SPD headquarters in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig.
The ceremony will be attended by SPD director Chief Superintendent Jose Gutierrez Jr., Southern Metro Manila mayors and their representatives, and the COPs.
The new recruits will be assigned to the districts five cities and two municipalities, said Senior Inspector Felix Anggulo, SPD public information officer.
The SPD is composed of the cities of Makati, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, and Muntinlupa, and the towns of Taguig and Pateros.
The cities and towns will get new policemen according to the existing police to population ratio in their areas, Anggulo said.
The new policemen underwent the selection process of the National Police Commission (Napolcom) and were recommended by the mayors themselves, Anggulo said.
The new recruits, who are mostly 21 to 23 years old, are graduates of the Philippine National Training Institute in Canlubang, Laguna and underwent six months of training.
They also attended seminars and orientation on law enforcement, Anggulo said. Nikko Dizon
