Passengers of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) will have a more comfortable ride following the installation of airconditioning units in the original trains.
Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) administrator Teddy Cruz Jr. said they have started the installation of aircon units in the old fleet, composed of 64 cars.
He said this month, the LRTA has completed the installation of aircon units in two three-car trains.
The two trains will be fielded at the end of the month in time for the opening of classes on June 9, he said. The two trains can accommodate some 1,100 sitting and standing passengers.
By the end of 2003, some 14 trains would have been installed with the aircon units. "The upgrading of the old fleet is part of the LRT Line 1 capacity expansion project to improve passenger services," Cruz said.
