Metro

Drive vs illegal jeep terminals on

-
The Central Police District said yesterday that they would be implementing stricter measures against jeepney drivers who continue occupying illegal terminals in Quezon City.

CPD sources said there are still many illegal jeepney terminals in the different areas of the metropolis despite the efforts of the Metro Manila Development Authority against such.

"We will be conducting more patrols particularly in Visayas Avenue, Balitawak and Cubao to discourage PUVs from taking part in unassigned terminals," PO3 Rogelio Esteves said.

According to police, the illegal terminals are one of the major causes of heavy traffic because tricycles and jeeps load and unload passengers in two-way avenues and boulevards, making it almost impassable for private vehicles.

Esteves said the MMDA has long issued a directive for jeepney drivers to hold their terminals at certain designated areas, but many of them ignore the directive.  Matthew Estabillo
