A former policeman was shot dead by an unidentified assailant while on a visit to his lover Thursday night in Taguig.
Victim Ariel Alcantara, 37, sustained gunshot wounds in different parts of his body. He died on the spot.
Alcantara held the rank of Senior Police Officer (SPO)2 before he was discharged from service by the Philippine National Police (PNP) after going on AWOL, said Senior Inspector Ronnie Forro of the Southern Police District-Scene of the Crime Operation (SPD-SOCO).
Forro added that investigation showed Alcantara, of Upper Bicutan, Taguig, was at his alleged lovers house in a squatters area in Maharlika Village when the incident happened at around 9 p.m.
The woman claimed that she was sleeping in another room when she heard gunshots, Forro said. When she went to check it out, she saw Alcantaras bullet-riddled body sprawled on the floor. The assailant had fled even before she got to the other room.
Forro said the woman nor Alcantaras wife could give any possible motive for the killing. However, police learned that Alcantara had many friends in the area and was a frequent visitor there.
The assailant used a .9 mm pistol. Alcantara had rifle with him but was not able to use it to defend himself, Forro said. Nikko Dizon
