A 31-year-old man who went into hiding after killing a student last week in Caloocan City has been arrested, police said yesterday.
The suspect was identified as Tirso de Guzman, single, native of Roxas City, residing at 13 Pampanga street, Bagong Barrio, Caloocan City.
De Guzman was collared by PO1 Leonardo Martin with the help of Barangay San Vicente Ferrer officials in Camarin, Caloocan City.
Police identified the victim as Christopher M. Fan, 17, student, of 65 Panday Pira Street, Camarin. He died later at the hospital due to a stab wound in the body.
Investigation showed that the incident happened on April 6, at about 3:55 in the morning. Witnesses said as the two met on the street near their residences, the suspect quickly stabbed the victim once in the body.
Neighbors and bystanders rushed the victim to the Manila Central University (MCU) Hospital but died three days later.
Police said prior to the incident, the two had a spat but cooler heads pacified them. The suspect is now detained at the police headquarters as murder charges are now being readied against him. Jerry Botial
