3 dead in road mishap

Three persons were killed after their van collided with a cargo truck in Tondo, Manila before dawn yesterday.
Traffic police identified the fatalities as Reynaldo Ponce of Caloocan City, Arnel Roxas and Nenita Gabrino.
Ponce and Roxas died on the spot due to fractured bones while Gabrino died while undergoing treatment at the Tondo General Hospital.
Case investigator SPO2 Bayani Agulan said the truck driver, Arsenio Villano, 49, surrendered to authorities after the incident, which took place at around 4 a.m. along Road 10 Bridge, Estero de Apog in Tondo.
Witnesses told police that Ponce, who was driving a Mitsubishi van (TDA-595) tried to overtake a slower vehicle. As he maneuvered, Ponce failed to see the speeding truck driven by Villano on the opposite lane. Cecille Suerte Felipe
