Women’s complaint section in NCRPO

-
To encourage victims of abuse to come forward and send their abusers to jail, the National Capital Regional Police Office (NCRPO) will set up booths for the Women’s and Children’s Concern Desk (WCCD) in strategic areas of the metropolis.

In time for the celebration of women’s month, two of such WCCD booths were erected at the terminals of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) in Pasay City Rotonda and in Buendia, said NCRPO chief Deputy Director General Reynaldo Velasco. "These WCCD satellite stations will be manned by competent female police personnel well-equipped to deal with complaints of sexual and physical abuse lodged by women and children," said Velasco.

Like the Police Express Assistance (PEA) booths, initially set up by the NCRPO in major malls in Metro Manila, the setting up of WCCD booths is a way of bringing the police closer to the public, he said. He assured the public that the WCCD personnel would be Magalang, Malinis and Mabilis, representing the new breed of cops in the NCRPO. "We want to avoid these victims from feeling victimized anew by rude, callous and impatient police operatives who are not sympathetic to their plight," said Velasco.

He cited a number of cases where the victims choose to keep their sad ordeal to themselves a secret, thus causing their assailants to get away with their crime. – Non Alquitran
