Police major in Caloocan videoke shooting incident

A police major is now in hot water after he figured in a videoke bar shooting incident resulting in the death of a jeepney driver Saturday night in Caloocan City. Suspect Chief Inspector Romeo Gemson, 53, reportedly assigned at the Office of the Deputy District Director (ODDD) of the Central Police District (CPD), voluntarily surrendered to the Caloocan City police.
At about 8:30 p.m., victim Norberto Pitapit Jr., 50, of 418 C-3 Road, Caloocan City, armed with a handgun, reportedly threatened customers of the Videoke Machine bar along M. H. del Pilar between 3rd and 4th avenues.
Pitapit, police said, pointed his gun at a number of men inside the videoke bar and not contented struck a certain Roberto Danze, 59, with his gun in the head.
Pitapit could not be restrained and reportedly fired at Gemson prompting the police officer to shoot back at his aggressor, police said.
Pitapit was hit in the upper portion of his chest and at the left side of his body. He died while being rushed for treatment at the Jose Reyes Hospital.
Police probers recovered from the crime scene a homemade caliber .38 revolver loaded with three live bullets.
Gemson reportedly surrendered to the Caloocan City police at about 10:45 p.m. and also turned over his caliber .45 pistol with five bullets in its magazine.
Charges were being readied yesterday for filing with the Caloocan City prosecutors office against the policeman-suspect.
