Las Piñas Mayor Vergel Aguilar has directed the city police chief, Superintendent Armando Pineda, to deploy more police patrols and conduct 24-hour surveillance in all the villages to ensure the safety of the residents and stop street crimes.
Barangay watchmen in 20 barangays as well as all security agencies in the citys more than 200 villages and subdivisions have also been mobilized by the city government to strengthen the anti-crime campaign of the city.
Fourteen socio-civic groups also made their commitment to support the city governments anti-crime campaign during a recent meeting with the mayor.
Aguilar stressed that "we need a multi-sectoral approach in combating street crimes" despite his city being considered one of the peaceful in Metro Manila for its low-crime rate and 99 percent crime solution efficiency.
Residents can also call the 24-hour "police hotline 166," text (0919) 7268791 and (0917) 7222890 or dial the citys chief of police direct line at 8716765, he added.
Aguilar ordered Pineda to implement "Oplan Bakal" or the confiscation of loose firearms in various public places in the city particularly in beerhouses and other recreational areas.
