A Quezon City councilor has filed a proposed ordinance for the mandatory computer education of all city government employees with the City Council as a great number of its personnel are not familiar with the use of the computer.
Councilor Jesus Suntay said the mandatory computer education is necessary because it will benefit the employees who are not versed and familiar with its use despite developments in the field of information technology.
"Through education and instruction in the proper and effective use of the computer, it is expected that the performance of all employees of the city will improve dramatically, to the ultimate advantage of the people we wish to serve," Suntay said. He said the training program is also for a more competent workforce.
The proposed ordinance tasks the Information and Technology Office under the Office of the Mayor in charge and authorized to conduct the training of all QC government employees in the proper and effective use of computers. All employees who are professional and non-professional civil service eligibles or their quivalent, holding clerical, technical supervisory and executive positions of all ranks and levels are required to undergo a training program in basic computer science and technology.
