Child killer gets beating from wife

The father, who dropped his three-year-old daughter from the fourth floor of a building in Tondo, Manila three weeks ago, was beaten by his wife last Monday.

Victor Perez, 33, suffered bruises when he was slapped and punched by his wife Marlyn, who has just arrived from Saudi Arabia, where she has been working as a domestic helper since October last year.

Last Jan. 27, Perez repeatedly stabbed his own three-year-old daughter Melody, then threw her four stories to her death. When neighbors checked on the child, they were shocked to see that the body bore five stab wounds in the chest area.

Detective Raul Olavario said he can’t blame the mother for going after her husband.

"Of course, it is only natural that the mother would get mad," he said.

The wife returned to the Philippines last week after learning of the death of her child. Yesterday, she went to the WPD headquarters and demanded to see Perez to make sure he was locked up in jail.

Perez, interviewed from his cell, showed reporters bruises on the chest and upper right arm, all inflicted by his wife. The suspect said he could not hit back because he was in handcuffs. – Cecille Suerte Felipe
