Presidential son saves the day

A woman from Quezon must be thanking her lucky stars that a presidential son and his fiancee had stayed out until 2 a.m. in Muntinlupa City before calling it a day.

A belated report by the Presidential Security Group (PSG) showed that the rape of Rowena Budoy, of Tagkawayan, Quezon was prevented when the convoy of Dato Arroyo, youngest son of the First Couple, and his fiancee Kakai Manotok, passed by the crime scene at around 2 a.m. last Feb. 2.

The report, filed by Major Inocencio Silbol, said that the convoy was traveling toward Southville Village near Ayal-Alabang when Budoy suddenly appeared, crying and begging for help from the convoy.

Budoy said she had asked a tricycle driver, later identified as Bong de los Reyes of Muntinlupa to take her to a bus terminal, but he took her instead to a grassy area and allegedly tried to rape her.

The PSG personnel in the convoy investigated and saw De los Reyes in the act of closing the zipper of his pants.

When asked why he was in the grassy area, De los Reyes replied that his tricycle malfunctioned and would not start.

The explanation, however, was quickly refuted. When tested by PSG personnel, the motorcycle operated properly.

Arroyo instructed his security to help the woman and to turn over the tricycle driver to authorities for the filing of appropriate charges. – Efren Danao
