Construction magnate kills self in QC home

A construction magnate decided to end his life yesterday morning inside his mansion in Quezon City because of reported business problems, police said.

Victim Domingo Toledo, 56, owner of Asia Pacific Construction, and a resident of 27 Ventura street, BF Homes in Barangay Holy Spirit, was found hanging from the ceiling of his music room.

Toledo, an engineer, was found dead by his stay-in housemaid Dannilyn Manduyo at about 6:15 a.m. inside the music room. The victim hanged himself with a dog collar tied to a steel beam.

A police source claimed Toledo was having serious problems regarding his construction business located at Tomas Morato, Quezon City. Asia Pacific has been "on the dole" for some time now, the source said.

Investigators of the Central Police District-Central Investigation Unit said the victim’s relatives refused to talk about his death and executed a waiver asking the body not to be autopsied.

Authorities are now conducting a follow-up investigaion on the case. Toledo is reportedly a friend of former National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief General Edgardo Aglipay.

"The construction company is their family business. We are still trying to determine if there are other possible reasons for his death. So, far, foul play is not yet part of the puzzle," the source said.

Toledo was last seen alive the night before lounging around the house, police said. His body bore no signs of external injuries except for ligature marks around his neck.

In Manila, a 45-year-old man fell to his death while working on the roof of a warehouse in Port Area yesterday morning.

Manuel Guero, of Purok 1, Kawit, Cavite and a stay-in carpenter hired by the FF Cruz firm, was working atop the roof of warehouse 3 near Gate 4 of the Manila South Harbor when he lost his balance.

Police said Aguero slipped and fell on the concrete road below. – With Mike Frialde
