Metro

Like a cat with nine lives

- Nestor Etolle -
A student who wanted to end it all for a still undetermined reason miraculously survived after jumping off an overpass, hitting the pavement and dragged several meters by a speeding cab on España Boulevard in Sampaloc, Manila Friday night.

Danilo Vizco, 19, of 16-E Sta. Catalina street, Mayon, Quezon City, is currently under observation at the University of Sto. Tomas Hospital. His attending physician, Dr. Malou Santos, said Vizco suffered a broken right leg, head contusions and abrasions in the various parts of the body.

Results of X-ray examinations conducted on Vizco were not yet available.

Vizco’s sister Marlene told police investigators that a suicide note was found inside his wallet. However, she refused to divulge to investigators the contents of the suicide note, saying only that her brother was neither depressed nor being burdened by personal problems.

According to SPO1 Donato Tan, Vizco attempted to end his life by jumping off the roof of the España overpass, more than 15 feet from the pavement, at around 10:45 p.m.

A passing white "Tsukasa" taxi with license plate TWK-654 then ran over his limp body, dragging it for several meters.

The driver of the cab, identified as Cerilo Aquiles, 35, of Area IV, Fourth State Subdivision, Parañaque City, later surrendered at the Malacañang police community precinct along J.P. Laurel street, Sta. Mesa, Manila.

Police said Aquiles will initially be charged with reckless imprudence resulting to serious physical injury.

Meanwhile, two persons were knifed dead by a suspected drug addict in Vitas, Tondo, early yesterday.

Homicide investigators of the Western Police District identified the victims as Modesto Ferrer, 48, of N. Rey street, Vitas and his daughter-in-law Alma Castro, 25, also of the same address.

According to homicide detective Rodelio Lingcong, the bodies of the two victims were discovered by Ferrer’s son, Albert, inside his house at about 4:30 a.m.

The suspect, Joseph Dacillo, 25, of 304 Block 2, Sto. Rosario street, was later arrested. Police said witnesses identified him as the one earlier spotted leaving the victim’s house.

According to police, both victims were stabbed five times in the chest.

Police found inside the victims’ house assorted drug paraphernalia and a sachet containing suspected shabu.

Investigators said the suspect could have barged into the victim’s house and stabbed them during a shabu session. Dacillo is now detained at the WPD integrated jail. With Mike Frialde
