Singapore to copy RP’s ‘Magic Eye’

-
The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) has accepted an invitation of the Singaporean police force to lecture on the technology and processes involved on the Magic Eye Txt Patrol 2910 pioneer program of the Metro Manila police.

NCRPO chief Deputy Director General Reynaldo Velasco yesterday said Singaporean police commissioner Khoo Boon Hui had expressed interest in creating a version of the innovative crime reporting system in the island state.

Velasco tapped Marikina police chief Senior Superintendent Leonardo Espina to brief the Singaporean official regarding the peace-keeping capability of the Metro Manila police force, an integral part of which is the implementation of the NCRPO’s Magic Eye Txt Patrol 2910 as a manifestation of the community’s participation in crime control and prevention.

Likewise, the NCRPO director tasked Espina to gather ideas from the Singaporean police on how to further improve the maintenance of peace and order in the metropolis.

"The Singaporean police may be employing methods that may prove applicable to further develop and improve law enforcement in Metro Manila," Velasco said, looking forward to a productive exchange of ideas with the Singapore police commissioner.

Initially, Interpol Singapore sent an e-mail requesting the Philippine government to brief them on how the Magic Eye Txt Patrol 2910 works.

In the letter, the police technological department of the Singapore police expressed interest in learning more about the program and asked for more information on the technology, more details on the processes involved, as well as the public’s reception to the program.

The request was made after the launching of the innovative crime-reporting system last year which was featured at The Strait Times, Singapore’s leading newspaper.

The Magic Eye is one of the frontline programs of the NCRPO, under Velasco, in the total war against crime in Metro Manila.

Its components include crime-mapping in police districts for efficient deployment of personnel; the Huli Agad which employs a special unit of motorcycle-mounted cops in response to 2910 calls; Police Express that brings police service to the malls; and Pulis Malinis, which promotes clean living and grooming among members of Metro Manila’s police force.
