Highway robbers neutralized in QC

Police gunned down two men and arrested another in a surveillance operation in Quezon City the other night, days after the suspects held up and killed a driver and seriously wounded an elderly woman.

Police identified the fatalities as Dante Goloso, 31, and Reynaldo Marangan. Both sustained bullet wounds in the body and expired at the East Avenue Medical Center.

Their cohort, Elizalde Cardinio, 32 is now under police custody.

Investigators said that they are now hunting a fourth suspect known only as "George."

Recovered from the suspects were a caliber .38 revolver, which they used in robbing and killing Gonzalo Abagon, 50.

Abagon was driving a white Suzuki Esteem with passenger Carmen Moje, 63 last Friday when two men riding a motorcycle with no plates, suddenly cut their path at the intersection of Congressional Avenue and Visayas Avenue. The suspects shouted at them to open the window of their vehicle.

They opened fire at the victims when Abagon tried to resist. The suspects sped off after taking Moje’s handbag.

At about 9:30 p.m. last Sunday, Central Police District officers were conducting a surveillance operation in Road 1, Visayas Avenue, when they spotted the suspects on board a passenger jeepney.

Police said they flagged down the vehicle but the suspects suddenly opened fire on them, prompting them to retaliate. Goloso was hit in the chest and stomach while Marangan was hit in the shoulder.

CPD officials said that the three suspects are part of a group preying on motorists in the said area. – Matthew Estabillo
