4 hurt in drunken rampage

Police are hunting down a jobless man who ran amuck and wounded four persons having a drinking session Wednesday night in Malabon City.

Superintendent Pete Ramos, Malabon City police chief, identified the suspect as Fernando Coles of Kaingin street in Barangay Tenajeros.

At about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, victims Dante Sta. Rosa, 32, and his brother Andres, 29, with their neighbors identified as Ricky Mansonares, 22, and Loreto Fuller, 58, all of Kaingin street, were drinking outside their house when they were attacked by the suspect for no apparent reason.

Coles, drunk and armed with a handgun and a knife, first attacked the younger Sta. Rosa, punching him in the face.

Dante came to his brother’s rescue but was stabbed by Coles, hitting him in the left arm.

Mansonares and Fuller joined the fray but the suspect beat them to the punch, wounding Mansonares in the right hand.

Fuller, who tried to take the knife away from Coles, was shot in the buttocks and in the leg.

"Away lang ng mga lasing ito
(It was a fight between drunks)," Ramos said.

Charges of attempted homicide and physical injuries were filed yesterday against the suspect, who escaped carrying a gun of unknown caliber and a bladed weapon. The victims were brought to Pagamutang Lungsod ng Malabon for treatment. –Pete Laude
