Gift-giving in Mandaluyong
December 20, 2002 | 12:00am
Senior citizens, pregnant women and physically-handicapped residents were given priority when Mandaluyong City Mayor Benjamin "Benhur" Abalos Jr., distributed P10.5 million worth of goods yesterday to some 35,000 indigents as part of his traditional "Pamaskong Handog" at the City Hall compound along Barangka Drive.
"As our tradition, we do not spend so much on Christmas glitter in favor of more buckets of goodies to our indigents," said Abalos, referring to the pails containing various food items. "I believe our people will appreciate the spirit of the season better this way instead of lavish street lights and decor." Non Alquitran
