Newly retired teacher found dead

- Marvin Sy -
A 63-year-old teacher, who had just received his pension from the Social Security System (SSS), was found dead with multiple stab wounds inside his home in Las Piñas City yesterday.

The victim was identified as Rufino de Guzman, single, a teacher at the Philippine Merchant Marine School.

Superintendent Armando Pineda, chief of police of Las Piñas City, said they believe the victim had been dead for two days when he was discovered by barangay officials.

According to neighbors, De Guzman was last seen alive Thursday night in his house at 447 Ramos Compound, Talon I.

The victim had received his pension last Thursday based on documents recovered from the scene.

Initial investigation revealed that the suspect entered the house of De Guzman and stabbed the victim several times in the neck.

Before leaving the house, the suspect took the victim’s pension as well as some important documents.

None of the neighbors were able to notice anyone going in or out of the suspect’s house since they last saw him Thursday.

Barangay captain Miling Ramos, sensing that something was wrong, entered the house of the victim and found his body sprawled on the floor in a pool of blood.

Meanwhile, a man was shot for not paying his bill at a restaurant along Zapote Road.

The victim, Christian Balimbin, 19, was at the Amparo Restobar at around 2 a.m. when the incident took place.

Witnesses claimed that the victim refused to settle the bill for his meal when he was asked to pay by the waiter.

Lawrence Grape, 22, who was enjoying several rounds of drinks inside the establishment, saw the waiter and Balimbin arguing and decided to interfere.

Grape, who was already drunk, took out his gun and shot Balimbin in the back before escaping.

Balimbin was brought to the Las Piñas District Hospital and was later transferred later to the Philippine General Hospital, where he was declared in stable condition.

Follow-up operations conducted by the Las Piñas resulted in the arrest of Grape inside the Sentraza Village, Pamplona I, a few hours after the incident.

He offered no explanation for his actions.
