Bowling champs son charged
December 7, 2002 | 12:00am
A 16-year-old son of four-time world bowling champion Paeng Nepomuceno was formally charged with illegal possession of prohibited drugs at the Mandaluyong City Regional Trial Court (RTC).
Court records showed that the bowlers son, of Kapigan Homes, Makati City, was turned over to the custody of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for proper disposition.
Assistant City Prosecutor Henry Laron forwarded the case to the RTC after finding enough evidence to prove that the suspect committed the crime.
The case, docketed as MC-02733-FC-D, was raffled off Thursday to the sala of Judge Rizalina Capco-Umall of Family Court Branch 212.
Records showed that the police arrested Nepommucenos son and companion Michael Reyes, 19, a second year high school student at 12:30 a.m. last Nov. 26. The two were allegedly buying shabu from a drug peddler on J. Rizal Street, Barangay Mabini.
The Mandaluyong police conducted a surveillance operation in the area after receiving complaints regarding the rampant sale of shabu to young boys by known drug pushers.
The bowlers son and Reyes were in the act of buying shabu when cornered by Mandaluyong City policemen. Nepomuceno yielded a sachet containing .2 grams of shabu, records showed.
Police said Reyes was released after the prosecutor found no strong evidence against him. Non Alquitran
