December 4, 2002 | 12:00am
A proposed ordinance creating the Quezon City Economic Development Corp. as proprietary arm of the local government has been filed at the Quezon City Council.
Councilor Janet Malaya, author of the ordinance, said the corporation will be operated and supported by the Quezon City government. It will absorb and integrate the provisions of other existing economic and business bodies in the city government like the Quezon City Economic Development Board, Quezon City Advisory Board and the Metro Manila-Quezon City Development Program.
She said the corporation will provide the city government the proprietary capacity, facilitate business and community development and stimulate industrial and commercial growth in Quezon City.
Other responsibilities of the corporation are the performance of proprietary functions authorizing the corporation to negotiate and engage into business, joint-ventures, investments and other economic activities consistent with the growth and development objectives and policies of the city; creation and adoption of strategic policies with the emphasis on facilitation of business and community development and the stimulation of industrial and commercial growth in the city; and the maintenance of close coordination and cooperation with the investors and the business sector through the organization and conduct of trade and investment missions both locally and abroad to launch and boost investments, business and employment opportunities in Quezon City.
The mayor will act as chairman of the corporation while the vice mayor will serve as vice chairman. Pia Lee-Brago
