This was the stern warning issued by newly appointed Manila People’s Law Enforcement Board (PLEB) chief Teresita Ang-See to erring policemen who might face charges before the body.
"Let me state this clearly and unequivocally to police officers who in the future might face charges before the PLEB. Do not even attempt to talk to me or send emissaries to take up your case. We will strictly follow the process," Ang-See said.
Manila Mayor Lito Atienza tapped Ang-See, a known anti-crime advocate, to head the PLEB in helping the local government instill discipline among the ranks of the city’s police force.
Ang-See and other members of the PLEB recently took their oath of office. The affair was witnessed by officials of the Western Police District (WPD), headed by its director Senior Superintendent Pedro Bulaong.
In appointing Ang-See, Atienza took note of her active role in the Citizens Action Against Crime, a Binondo-based anti-crime group.
"With Ms. Ang-See as the new chairperson of the PLEB and the additional disciplinary powers granted to local government units in Metro Manila, we are sure that discipline among policemen will greatly improve," Atienza added. – Cecille Suerte Felipe
