Zamboanga vice mayor killed in ambush

Vice Mayor Perfecto Cebedo of Rizal, Zamboanga del Norte was ambushed and killed in Alabang, Muntilupa yesterday, police said.

Cebedo’s wife, Juliet was wounded and was rushed to a Muntinlupa hospital, Muntinlupa police chief Supt. Erasto Sanchez told the The STAR.

Armed men opened fire at the white L-300 van Cebedo, his wife and two children were riding in on Civic Drive near the Filinvest Mall at 5:40 p.m.

Cebedo reportedly had just visited Zamboanga del Norte Rep. Romeo Jalosjos at the New Bilibid prison in Muntinlupa.

PO3 Ariel Rodriguez said that he suspected "politics" was the motive, citing the assassination of the victim's brother, Victorio in 1992. The rival Yap clan of Rizal, Zamboanga del Norte was implicated in that execution.

Victorio was killed during the election period in 1992. He was running in the vice mayoralty race in Rizal. — Ann Corvera
