Not so lucky

His luck ran out this time.

A man named "Lucky" was shot dead after attending a friend’s birthday party in Tondo, Manila, the other night.

The homicide section of the Western Police District identified the victim as Lucky Romel Valisno, 22, of Meycuayan, Bulacan.

Prior to the incident, police said, Valisno attended the birthday party of a certain Peter John Manalo, of 195 Banahaw Street, Balut, Tondo at about 9:50 p.m.

The party ended a few minutes later and the guests, including the victim, began leaving Manalo’s house.

Police said Valisno was standing in front of the host’s house when a gunshot suddenly rang out.

Valisno then collapsed on the pavement bloodied with a gunshot wound in the chest. He died on the spot, police said.

Responding barangay watchmen later recovered a caliber .38 revolver with a spent shell inside the chamber. The weapon was found in a plant box near the area where Valisno was shot.

Homicide detectives are still trying to find out if Valisno was really the target of the shooting or if he was simply an unlucky victim of mistaken identity. – Mike Frialde
