AWOL cop turns to crime
November 15, 2002 | 12:00am
Not having any means of living for five months, an AWOL cop attempted to rob an air-conditioned bus before being arrested in Makati City the other night.
Police Officer 3 Elias Villon, 50, a resident of San Pedro, Laguna and a member of the Canlubang, Laguna police, took out his caliber .38 pistol and declared a hold-up inside a bus along Ayala Avenue at around 8:15 p.m.
He tried to take the cell phone of passenger Eleanor Carriedo, 32, but met resistance. The housewife from Makati later told police that she thought the suspects gun was a toy.
During a tug-of-war for the phone, a frustrated Villon hit Carriedos hand with the butt of the gun and alighted from the bus. He boarded another bus headed toward EDSA.
However, one of the passengers of the first bus sought the help of traffic enforcers, who quickly notified the Makati police. The second bus was intercepted, and the suspect surrendered peacefully to authorities. Marvin Sy
