Reverend ends it all

- Matthew Estabillo -
A 62-year-old reverend, suffering from a terminal illness, decided to end his life by hanging himself inside a motel room the other night in Quezon City.

Rev. Andrew Villamor Sacuyap, of Bonifacio Street in Lemery, Batangas City, was found hanging by a yellow nylon cord around his neck inside his room at the Sogo Hotel in Cubao.

Police sources said Sacuyap was suffering from bone cancer. He told a fellow reverend that night that he was "ending it all."

A suicide note was found beside the victim’s body.

According to Police Officer 2 Gregorio Maramag, officer-on-case, the reverend checked in for a three-hour stay at the Sogo Hotel located along Aurora Boulevard, near Yale Street at around 8:30 p.m.

At around 11:30 p.m., hotel supervisor Joel Jimenez was forced to open the door after the victim failed to check-out.

Jimenez found the reverend hanging inside the comfort room.

Maramag told The Star that an hour before Sacuyap’s body was discovered, he made a final call to a colleague to say goodbye.

Police said the victim "had not been himself ever since he found out about his condition."

"His colleague even offered to take him to a specialist, but the victim declined.

Sacuyap has a son, but the victim apparently did not contact him about his suicide plans, Maramag pointed out.

Investigators of the Central Police District found no other external injuries on Sacuyap except for ligature marks on the neck.

Police said that the victim did not checked in with a companion.
