4 dead in bloody All Saints’ Day

- Matthew Estabillo -
Two people were gunned down while another two were stabbed dead in Quezon City in four separate incidents during a bloody All Saints’ Day.

Nemesio Lumpas, 47, a barangay official, of 84 Ilang-Ilang Street, Sitio San Roque, Barangay Pag-Asa, was shot by an armed drunk while the former was patrolling the area.

Lumpas was walking in a dark alley at about 11:30 p.m. when an unidentified gunman blocked his path and pulled out a gun of still unknown caliber.

Without warning, the assailant fired at Lumpas, hitting him on the right side of his cheek. The suspect immediately fled the scene.

Earlier that evening, a 22-year-old tricycle driver was stabbed dead by his neighbor after he beat him in a basketball game in Barangay Holy Spirit, Quezon City.

Victim Rodelio Celoza, of 2328 Atur 6-B, Nawasa Line, Holy Spirit, suffered stab wounds and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Malvar General Hospital at about 8:30 p.m.

The suspect, Emerito de la Cruz, 24, of 163 Area 7, Nawasa Line, is now detained at the Central Police District awaiting proper charges to be filed against him.

Reports showed that Celoza had won over the suspect in a friendly one-on-one game at the court near their homes at about 7:30 p.m. The victim however, began taunting De la Cruz, and before long, an argument ensued.

At the height of their altercation, the suspect pulled out a bladed weapon and stabbed Celoza repeatedly in different parts of the body.

In another shooting incident, a jeepney driver was shot dead by a still unidentified armed man while inside his parked vehicle in Barangay Commonwealth.

Dario Andena, 41, of Montalban Rizal, sustained gunshot wounds in the forehead and nose and was pronounced dead on arrival at the East Avenue Medical Center.

Investigators said Andena was inside his passenger jeepney at about 7 a.m. at IBP Road corner Litex Road in Barangay Commonwealth reading a newspaper when the suspect arrived and fired at him twice with a homemade shotgun.

Meanwhile, a 47-year-old security guard was stabbed dead right in front of a videoke bar in Barangay San Antonio after he allegedly picked a fight with another customer.

A certain "Joey" is now being hunted by the police after he stabbed victim Gilbert Cejo, of 23 Fema Road. Cejo expired at the Quezon City General Hospital while undergoing medical treatment.

Reports said that Cejo picked a fight with the suspect inside Vina’s KTV Bar located along 341-D Mangahan Street, Barangay San Antonio at around 12:30 a.m. With Katherine Adraneda
