Color-coded jeepneys?

Color-coded passenger jeepneys may soon be plying the country’s major roads as the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) begins a crackdown on colorum vehicles this month.

Transport Undersecretary Arturo Valdez said the program will be implemented gradually in Metro Manila in coordination with jeepney organizations.

"We have already coordinated with six groups of jeepney drivers and operators. This is similar to our drive against colorum buses along EDSA," he noted.

Valdez said half of the jeepneys operating in the metropolis are colorum, but he could not give the exact figures.

Under the program, the DOTC will issue color-coded stickers that will help authorities identify legitimate jeepneys from colorums.

The DOTC warned the public against patronizing colorum vehicles because they would not be covered by insurance in case of accidents. – Sheila Crisostomo
