Robbers kill stubborn passenger in QC bus heist

A 33-year-old salesman was shot in the throat after refusing to surrender his belongings to five men who robbed a passenger bus along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City the other day.

Police identified the fatality as Edward Macaraya, of 1430 Vomel Street, Litex Village, San Jose, Montalban in Rizal. Doctors at the Fairview General Hospital declared him dead on arrival.

Records at the Central Police District-Central Investigation Unit (CPD-CIU) showed that the incident happened at around 9:50 p.m. Wednesday inside a Jell Transport bus (PXI-810) bound for Fairview.

Investigation showed that the bus, which came from Baclaran, was passing Philcoa when five unidentified men armed with handguns and a grenade, declared the heist.

The robbers swiftly divested jewelry, cellular phones, and cash from some 50 passengers.

However, the victim, who was seated in the middle portion of the bus with his wife Maria Delia, refused to hand over his valuables to the suspects. This prompted one of the suspects to shoot him in the throat.

The suspects then got off the bus as it reached the corner of Litex Road and Commonwealth Avenue, carrying their loot. The victim was rushed to the nearby hospital.

Lawmen are now tracking down the suspects, whose sketches were immediately made available through the help of the bus passengers.
