Caloocan fire razes 80 houses

At least 80 houses were destroyed when a three-hour fire of still unknown origin broke out in a densely populated area in Caloocan City Friday night.

Fire Officer 3 Elmer Ababa of the Caloocan City Fire Department said that about 100 families on P. Zamora Street and Doña Rita Street in Barangay 19 were affected by the blaze.

Arson investigators placed the damage caused by the blaze at P3 million. No one was reported hurt.

The fire reportedly started at the house of the Fuentes family at about 9:10 p.m.

The blaze quickly spread to nearby houses.

Firefighters had difficulty penetrating the burning area as the neighborhood’s narrow alleys were blocked by debris including old cars, arson investigators said.

The blaze was put under control at about 10:50 p.m. through the help of several small firetrucks from neighboring localities. It was declared out at around 11:30 p.m. – Pete Laude
