A cargo jeepney driver and his mother were killed while a helper was injured after their vehicle rammed into the rear of a 10-wheeler truck early yesterday morning along the South Luzon Tollway in Muntinlupa City.
Authorities identified the fatalities as Bryan Belen, 27, and his mother Dolores, both of Barangay Bagong Silang, Alaminos, Laguna. Helper Teofilo Lagaya was injured in the accident.
The mother and son were rushed to the Muntinlupa General Hospital but were declared dead on arrival, said Manny Prades, radio operator of the Philippine National Construction Corp. (PNCC).
Initial investigation showed that the incident happened at around 3:30 a.m. on the northbound lane of the SLT in front of South Greenheights, Bayanan, Muntinlupa.
Prades said that for still unexplained reasons, the cargo jeepney (NVK 782) being driven by Belen slammed into the rear portion of the 10-wheeler closed van (HVH 788) driven by Danila Sultan.
Dolores, who was seated on the passenger side of the jeepney, was pinned in the wreck. Nikko Dizon
