Heavy traffic around NAIA

Traffic is expected to be heavy in the vicinity of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) as road work gets underway in preparation for the opening of a new terminal and the development of an airport expressway aimed at easing vehicular flow.
Work on a viaduct that would connect NAIA directly to the South Superhighway is set to start next year. Bidding for the project is scheduled for October.
"The NAIA expressway will ease traffic in the area," Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Assistant Secretary Salvador Pleyto, said in an interview.
DPWH-National Capital Region (NCR) director Antonio Sta. Elena said the construction is part of the infrastructure program designed to support the expected increase in vehicular volume in the area with the planned opening of the new NAIA Terminal 3 in November.
Sta. Elena said the NAIA area is currently experiencing congestion caused by the expansion of Domestic, Sales and Andrews Roads in Pasay City.
Construction of the expressway will start with the expected completion of road widening works.
"We are already rushing all expansion work. Perhaps by the end of the month we can finish the projects," Sta. Elena said. Jose Aravilla
