Returning Swede robbed by own wife

- Matthew Estabillo -
He came back to the country with his earnings to be with his wife, only to lose both in one day.

This is how police described the unfortunate fate suffered by a 51- year-old Swedish marine engineer, who was allegedly robbed and deserted by his own wife yesterday, a day after he returned from abroad.

Complainant Ulf Cederguen, 51, a seaman-engineer for an international shipping company, told authorities that his common-law wife left him while he was sleeping at their rented home in Quezon City, taking with her at least P750,000 in cash and jewelry.

Police are now hunting down Emily Ramos, 32, who shares a rented house with Cederguen at Bach Street, Filinvest II, Barangay Batasan Hills, Quezon City.

Sources said that the complainant came back to the country to be with Ramos. The Swedish national and the suspect have been living together for about four years now.

The suspect allegedly took $9,000 in cash, a bankbook containing $5,000, a gold necklace and gold ring, all belonging to the complainant. She then left the house.

A distraught Cederguen, who is usually out of the country because of his job, told policemen that he never thought his wife was capable of"doing such a thing."

Meanwhile, police are now on the hunt for three still unidentified men after they robbed and stabbed dead the other day a 20 year-old college student in Novaliches, Quezon City.

Victim Marvin Malate, of Block 27, Lot 35, Palmera Springs, Deparo, Caloocan City, suffered stab wounds in the body and died while undergoing treatment at the Far Eastern University Hospital.

The three robbers, described as men in their early twenties, fled right after the incident, taking with them Malate’s personal belongings and the blade they used.

Investigators said that the victim was walking along Dumalay Street in Sta. Monica, Novaliches at about 3:30 p.m. after visiting a friend when the three men suddenly blocked his path.

The killers announced a hold-up and demanded that Malate hand over his money. The victim resisted, prompting one of the suspects to pull out a weapon and stab Malate twice in the chest.

The robbers took the victim’s wallet and other belongings before fleeing the scene. They left a bleeding Malate sprawled on the ground.

The victim was brought to the hospital where he expired at about 2:15 a.m. yesterday after undergoing medical surgery.

The Central Police District is now conducting follow-up operations.
