Detainee in suicide try at Makati jail

A detainee of the Makati police attempted to take his own life inside the comfort room of the police headquarters last Friday afternoon by using his own shorts.

Makati police identified the detainee as Rogelio Diaz, 55, a resident of Barangay Pembo. He is being held on charges he raped his own niece.

At around 5:45 p.m., Diaz asked to go to the toilet to relieve himself, remaining inside for a few minutes.

A loud thud was heard from inside the comfort room, prompting policemen on duty to check on the detainee.

They were surprised to see a half-naked Diaz on the floor with his shorts tied around his neck.

Diaz was rushed to the Ospital ng Maynila where he was treated for minor injuries sustained from the fall.

Police said that the victim was probably overridden with guilt over the rape charge and decided to take his own life. – Marvin Sy
