September 10, 2002 | 12:00am
This snatcher managed to escape arrest, but not death.
The body of a suspected snatcher was fished out from the Pasig River in Binondo, Manila yesterday morning, two days after he eluded an angry mob and pursuing cops.
SPO1 Modesto Francisco of the Western Police District-Tactical Operations Center (WPD-TOC), said the unidentified body was found floating at around 7 a.m. near Estero Muelle de la Industria.
Francisco described the victim as 25 to 35 years old, about 52" in height, of medium built, fair complexioned and with a tattoo on his left shoulder. There were bruises on the victims forehead, which police said were all superficial in nature.
Probers noted that the recovered body matched the description of a man, who was chased by policemen and bystanders last Saturday after a snatching incident.
When the snatching victim shouted for help, lawmen and bystanders chased the suspect, who was forced to jump into the river when cornered.
Police said they believed that the victim drowned after jumping into the murky waters. Cecille Suerte Felipe
