Road works in Makati underway

-
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has advised the public that it has started civil works from Arnaiz Avenue to Herrera Street in Pasong Tamo, Makati City.

The project is intended to improve traffic and reduce congestion in arterial roads through sidewalk improvements as well as upgrading of existing drainage systems to prevent floodings in the area between the Makati Cinema Square and Urban Avenue.

The Pasong Tamo rehabilitation, which is part of the Secondary Roads Program of the World Bank-funded Metro Manila Urban Transport Integration Project (MMURTRIP), will comprise essentially of reclaiming and clearing pedestrian sidewalks of obstructions, raising the curbside elevation, installation of pedestrian barriers, designation of loading/unloading bays for public transport, declogging the drainage system, construction of waiting sheds and landscaping of the area.

The project development objective of MMURTRIP is to assist the Philippine government in enhancing the economic productivity and quality of life of Metro Manila residents. Its action program will improve the operational efficiency and safety of the transport system with better opportunities for access to public transport and non-motorized transport.

According to the MMDA, the project is expected to be finished within the next 15 months. Aside from the Pasong Tamo component, the Secondary Roads Program will also conduct civil works in the following roads, namely, D. Romualdez Street, Legarda Street, M. de la Fuente Street, Jacobo Fajardo St. and Tayuman in Manila; Arnaiz Avenue and Gil Puyat Avenue in Makati City; Quezon Boulevard, Banaue Avenue, Quirino Highway, and Don Mariano Marcos Avenue extension in Quezon City; 10th Avenue in Caloocan City; Pedro Gil/New Panaderos in Mandaluyong City; South Super Highway in Taguig and Pasay; and the East/West Service Road in Parañaque City and Muntinlupa City.
