Navotas cop station wins award anew

The Navotas police station was named Best Municipal Police Station in the National Capital Region anew by National Police Commission for the first quarter of 2002.

Navotas Police Chief Superintendent Roberto Villanueva said the improved peace and order situation in Navotas was the reason why Navotas won the award for the third time.

The National Capital Regional Police Office presented the award to Villanueva.

The Navotas police force has consistently won the Best Municipal Police Station of the Month plum during the last quarter of 2001.

"The efficiency in solving crime related problems in our town has improved a lot. For the past few months, there’s no sensational crimes here and the success of police operations against vice contributed a lot in giving us this award," Villanueva said.

Navotas Mayor Toby Tiangco said the town police force deserved the award.

"This third award only goes to show the dedication of the town’s policemen." Tiangco said as he reiterated the call for the return of the control of the police to local government officials as recommended by President Arroyo.

"The police would perform even better if it is under the supervision of the municipal government," Tiangco said.

Navotas has 119 police officers to protect and serve a population of close to 300,000, the mayor disclosed. To help boost the town police’s efficiency, Tiangco said he donated nine patrol cars, two motorcycles and converted a cargo container into an airconditioned police detachment. – Jerry Botial
