Girl shot by schoolmate over video game in QC

-
A 17-year-old girl was shot dead by her schoolmate in front of a computer shop in Quezon City after she beat him in a video game several times Wednesday.

Veronica Galang, of 85 San Roque St., Barangay Holy Spirit, a student at a nearby school, suffered a bullet wound in the eye and died on the spot.

The assailant was said to be her schoolmate. He was armed with a homemade shotgun and fled after the incident.

Police said the suspect shot the victim after she repeatedly defeated him in a video game and started teasing him about his "sub-par play."

Initial reports showed that the two were playing at a computer shop near the victim’s house in San Roque Street, Barangay Holy Spirit at about 9:30 p.m.

After they left the shop, the suspect reportedly flew into a rage and pulled out his firearm. He shot Galang once in the left eye. Elements of the Central Police District are now looking for the suspect.

Meanwhile, a 57-year-old barangay official was shot dead by a drunk colleague early yesterday morning in Quezon City even after he helped the latter get home safely after a drinking session.

The victim, Ernesto Madriaga, a member of the Civilian Volunteer’s Organization of Barangay Sauyo, suffered a gunshot wound in the body and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Quezon City General Hospital.

The suspect, who is still at-large, was identified as Rodel Inducta, 30, also a volunteer barangay tanod and a resident of Novaliches.– Matthew Estabillo
