Honk your horn vs hike in toll

-
This was the call made yesterday by consumer activist group Movement for Responsible Enterprise (MORE), as it begins to step up its mass action against the toll increase at the Skyway System.

More president Ray Junia said the protest will start today. "We encourage those who are against the increase to make their sentiments known to the government. Honk your horns twice after paying your toll," Junia said.

He added that the group may lead a protest march to Malacañang next week.

President Arroyo has ordered a suspension of the new round of toll rate increase at the Skyway at-grade and ground level systems until July 16 to give time for a more intensive information campaign.

Junia said the new rates are nearly 100-percent of the previous rates.

Junia said the group is fast losing hope that the courts would grant a temporary restraining order (TRO) against the rate increase.

Skyway manager Citra-Metro Manila Tollways Corp. (CMMTC) spokesperson Ramon Borromeo said the increase was inevitable to allow the company to pay its debts. – Nikko Dizon
