‘Good Samaritan’ dies in Sampaloc

-
Sometimes being Good Samaritan is not a good idea.

A 24-year old man was himself electrocuted after he tried to save a young girl from stepping on a live wire in Sampaloc, Manila, Thursday night.

Homicide investigators identified the victim as Paolo Lopez, of 1253 Sisa St., Sampaloc. Investigation showed that the victim rushed to the aide of Justin Mari Turiano, 13, who accidentally stepped on a live wire at the corner of Dapitan and E. Quintos Streets at about 8:30 p.m.

Police said the victim, who was just a short distance away from Justin, suddenly rushed and pulled the girl away. Unfortunately, the victim slipped and fell on the wire and was himself electrocuted.

Lopez was rushed to the nearby University of Santo Tomas Hospital, but was declared dead on arrival.

Meanwhile, a young boy was killed after he was crushed by a videoke machine in Tondo, Manila, Friday morning.

Police said three-year old Rheynel Anden, of 2460 Malaya Street, Balut, Tondo, was playing at about 9:40 a.m. Malaya Street when he spotted the cart carrying the heavy videoke parked infront of the barangay covered court.

Investigators said the victim then approached the cart and wildly rocked it, causing the heavy machine to slide and fall on him. Police said the victim sustained internal injuries and died on the spot.

Police said the videoke machine was allegedly rented by Barangay Chairman Silvestre Dumagat from the J-Anne Videoke and was used during his birthday celebration at the covered court of Barangay 125 last Thursday night.

Investigators said the videoke machine was about to be returned to the videoke joint when the incident happened. Police are still studying whether negligence contributed to the boy’s death. – Mike Frialde
