46 arrested in jueteng raids in Metro Manila

Some 27 cabos, bet collectors and couriers were arrested and P12,131 in bets were seized during three successive raids Friday on jueteng joints in Pateros.
Metro Manila police chief Deputy Director General Edgar Aglipay said Superintendent Joel Baloro, Pateros police chief, had a lot of explaining to do why he should not be relieved for allegedly tolerating jueteng in his area.
The latest arrest brought to 46 the number of jueteng employees arrested by elements of the Regional Intelligence and Special Operations Office (RISOO) and the Counter Intelligence and Special Unit (CISU) in a period of one week.
Superintendent Bayani de la Rea, RISOO chief, said those arrested admitted during interrogation that they were working for a gambling lord, a certain Tony Santos.
De la Rea said three teams of RISOO operatives conducted successive raids at Silangan St., F-90 Alameda St., and 16 Rosal St., in Barangay Rosario, all in Pateros and arrested the suspects while they were drawing their jueteng winning combinations.
Those arrested were Dante Cruz, 24; Dentor Toledo, 25; Michael de la Peña, 21; Paul de la Cruz, 33; Arnold Santos, 34; Rommel Moreno, 33; Alvin Bansil, 22; Domingo Titular, 36; Jessie Cruz, 25; Ener Ocampo, 25; Bryan Rodriguez, 20; Ronilo Salagubang, 32; Jericho Sunson, 28; Nicolas Valencia, 45; John Santos, 21; Eddie Martin, 39; Darwin Agustin, 27; Ronaldo Castro, 30; Jay Mercado, 36; Jake Flores, 32; Marilyn Dizon, 18; Beth Macandog, 43; Marilyn Marquez, 21; Dana Cruz, 34; Wilson Reyes, 32; Danny Santos, 41, and Dennis Calma, 36. They yielded jueteng paraphernalia including bet lists, calculators, winning markers, ball pens, bundles of bond paper and P12,131 in different denominations.
De la Rea said the raids were in compliance of Aglipays directive to neutralize jueteng in Metro Manila.
Last June 2, RISOO operatives also raided a jueteng den maintained by a certain Boy Tepang, a former policeman, in Cubao, Quezon City and arrested 14 employees while also drawing the winning combinations. They yielded P18,800 cash and jueteng paraphernalia.
De la Rea ordered a massive manhunt for Tepang, who also operates a chain of beerhouses in Quezon City offering bold shows to customers.
Two days later, a team headed by Chief Inspector Arnold Aguilar, CISU chief raided a jueteng joint in barangay Sto. Niño, Parañaque City which resulted in the arrest of five personnel.
Aguilar said the arrestof Benny Lozano, 40; Joey Vitug, 31; Jessie Amparo, 25; Linda Tolentino, 34, and Silverio Roque, 34, was a product of close cooperation between the residents and the police. Non Alquitran
