Makati starts listing of mobile street canteens
July 5, 2002 | 12:00am
The Makati City government, through the Coffeenomenon Cafe Corporation, the winning contractor that will manage and monitor the compliance of mobile canteens plying the Central Business District, has started processing the applications of some 145 operators who attended the pre-qualification hearing conducted by the Business Permit and Licensing Office (BPLO) last week.
This developed after the Makati City Council unanimously approved Ordinance No. 2002-007 in its third reading, which prescribed rules and regulations for the operation of mobile canteens in Makati City.
The operators were given a briefing on the operational standards, rules and regulations, and benefits and assistance to them under the new system. They were also asked for comments and recommendations in the dialogue that culminated in a demonstration of the canteen prototype at the Makati City Hall quadrangle.
Under the ordinance, operation of all mobile-canteens shall be standardized through the use of new, aluminum, rust-free food trailers.
The ordinance gave the winning bidder the responsibility to fabricate food trailers at their own expense, and manage the operations thereof, subject to the ratification of the City Council and to all existing rules and regulations.
