Robber robbed, shot dead

-
A young robber was held up and shot dead by another robber after the latter mugged a street vendor along Quirino Highway in Quezon City last Monday.

Victim William Cabos, 20, a resident of Parola in Tondo, Manila, sustained a bullet wound in the body and died while receiving medical treatment at the East Avenue Medical Center.

The killer, described by police as a man in his late twenties, fled after the shooting, taking with him the money Cabos allegedly robbed from a vendor identified only as "Jun." The assailant was armed with a handgun.

Initial reports showed that the incident took place at about 1:30 p.m. along Quirino Highway near RP Street in Barangay Gulod.

According to PO1 Gregorio Maramag, Cabos was armed with a knife and allegedly robbed the street vendor of his earnings.

The gunman however, saw what Cabos had just done and blocked the latter’s path. Without saying a word, the robber pulled out his firearm and shot Cabos once in the right side of the abdomen.

Cabos fell to the ground but not before the gunman grabbed the money and walked away casually. Cabos was taken to the hospital by bystanders but died at around 4:10 p.m.

Meanwhile, three suspected robbers were collared by elements of the Western Police District-Bantay Bayan group shortly divesting a jeepney passenger of cash and valuables in Sta. Cruz, Manila, early yesterday morning.

Police identified the suspects as Richard Piamonte, 28, a native of Cebu City, an alleged member of the "Bahala na Gang" and resident of 22nd street Port Area, Manila; Jessie Constantino, 18, of 1003 Interior 34 Mendiola Extension, Otis, Manila, also an alleged member of the "Bahala na Gang," and Mawari Punzal, 18, an alleged member of the "Sigue Sigue Commando Gang" and a resident of 1337 A. Burgos Street, Paco, Manila.

Investigation said the suspects robbed a jeepney passenger and were later collared by the police. – Matthew Estabillo and Mike Frialde
